Haseen Dillruba Review - Story

Rani (Tapsee) is accused of murdering her loving husband Rishu(Vikrant) following a mysterious bomb blast in their household. She pleads not guilty but the investigating police officer begs to differ and does everything in his power to make her admit the crime. Is Rani really behind the murder?

Haseen Dillruba Review - Analysis

Haseen Dillruba gets off to a shaky start as the sequences related a murder, a subsequent bomb blast, and the love track between the lead pair look half-baked. The narrative settles down post the 15- minute mark and the core plot - the unhappy marriage life of the lead pair, Rani and Rishu sets in. This track is formulaic and lacks any freshness.

The proceeding picks up the pace, albeit for a very brief period of time after the entry of Harshavardhan Rane’s character, with whom the lady lead maintains an extramarital affair. Sadly, this subplot loses steam very quickly and subsequent proceedings are narrated in the most predictable way possible.

What shines bright in this deeply flawed mystery thriller is the performances of the lead cast. Tapsee as a widowed wife and Vikrant Massey as a soft-natured newlywed husband deliver commendable performances. Harshavardhan makes an impact despite his limited screen presence.

The screenplay is way too convenient and it lacks novelty. The penultimate scenes and climax look a tad far-fetched and that takes a toll on the overall movie-watching experience.

A couple of scenes related to the female lead trying to win the love of her husband are good. But that is about it. Music and cinematography are of fine quality. Editing is under par.

Haseen Dillruba Review - Verdict

Haseen Dillruba is a deeply flawed mystery thriller that fails to keep the viewers engaged. Tapsee and Vikrant deliver excellent performances but even they can’t save this poorly constructed thriller.
