Remake Spree In Bollywood; Can Bollywood Ever Recover?

Apart from the biopic section, most of Bollywood's releases today are remakes of South Indian films. That's why Bollywood, which used to be called the biopic industry, has now got the bad name of the remake industry. With this, the entire Bollywood industry is exhausted. Bollywood's woes actually began when South Indian films were increasingly being remade.

When popular South Indian language films introduced with Bollywood superstars, some became hits. But many others were flops. Akshay Kumar's Hindi dub of Karthik Subbaraj's 'Jigarthanda', 'Bachchan Pandey', was a smash hit at the theatres. The same was the case at the box office even when Nani's remake of "Jersey" starring Shahid Kapoor was made with the same title. Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan's "Vikram Veda" also made good collection in the theaters.

But producer Boney Kapoor says that the reason why Bollywood remakes fail is because the original movie is completely copied. Boney Kapoor talked about the reasons why his latest releases, like Vikram Veda and Jersey, were not successful. The reason why Hindi remakes of some South Indian films are not successful is because they are copied. Even the names of Vikram Veda and the jersey have been similarly plagiarized. Also, while remaking South Indian films, some North Indian ingredients should be added to suit the Hindi audience.

"If you want to make a film that will be accepted by the whole of India, then the audience will accept it," says Boney Kapoor. Hearing Boney Kapoor's statement, "Is that really the only reason for Bollywood's failure?" We have to ask.. because Boney's words coincided with the release of her daughter Janhvi Kapoor's "Mili" movie. Mili is a remake of the movie "Helen", directed by Mathukutty Xavier with Anna Benn in the lead role.

But still, remakes of South Indian films are being prepared in Bollywood. Ayyappanum Koshiyum' remake, Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer 'Selfie', Aditya Roy Kapur starrer 'Tadam' remake, Shankar's Ranveer Singh film 'Anniyan', 'Ala Vaikunthapuramlo', Ajay Devgn's' Kaithi' remake,' Master' the list goes on.
