Boney, whose younger brothers Anil and Sanjay Kapoor are all actors, admits that he first hesitated to get into acting because it was something he had never done before. Boney told the media that his son, children, and siblings ultimately encouraged him to give it a chance. He says that now that he's decided, he's looking forward to it, mainly because he'll be playing the reel-life spouse of one of his favorite actors, Dimple Kapadia. Furthermore, he is eager to try something fresh and uncharted.
Boney, who had been married to Sridevi for 22 years, died in a drowning accident in 2018. From his first wife, Mona (dead), he had actor Arjun Kapoor and entrepreneur Anshula; from Sridevi, he has Jhanvi and Khushi Kapoor.
