The whole world is trying to cope with the increasing spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. The cinematic industry worldwide is taking the most hit. It is trying to adjust to the demands of people during this time. As a result of which, Disney has released the animated Frozen 2 on Disney+ for families at home. Other production houses are stalling the release of films for the next two months. Mulan is one of them. There are now talks that due to this uncertain period in the Entertainment industry, Mulan may appear on Disney+.
Disney had to postpone the release of two of its other films along with Mulan, The New Mutants and Antlers. Universal Pictures recently took a bold step and placed their three biggest films on video on demand. They placed The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emm on VOD. They announced that Trolls: World Tour is postponed till April along with F9 and No Time to Die. This led to people thinking if Disney will do the same with the most anticipated movie of 2020.
There is no confirmation regarding this. Disney only said that they have delayed it till the current crises subside. Sources say there are much fewer chances of this happening since Mulan is one of the costliest live-action films of Disney. The budget cut of Mulan is unclear but observing things like a large number of war scenes and on-location photography is most certainly true.
Going by this information, Mulan needs to live up to the budget. Which seems impossible in the given atmosphere. While putting Mulan on Disney+ will lead to an increase in its subscription, it is the kind of financial risk that Disney is not willing to take.
