Vivek Oberoi, the actor who held a press conference in 2003 revealing the harsh realities of the Hindi film industry, recently spoke out on the resurfacing conversation around lobbying and bullying, 20 years after his infamous conference. Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas brought the topic back to the forefront in a recent interview. In the interview, she discussed being pushed into a corner in the industry and having beef with people. Oberoi admits that lobbying and bullying have been a hallmark of the industry. He said that he experienced it firsthand. He knows how frustrating it can be to go through such experiences, feeling extremely exhausted and tired. Oberoi shifted his focus to philanthropy and business after not receiving any work, saying that it was empowering for him. He finds Priyanka’s latest statement inspirational. He applauds her for finding a new space and exploring something different. He said that has worked out well for her personally and professionally.
The Dharavi Bank actor notes that bullying and other disgraced practices can kill young talents at a budding stage. He opines that the industry is a very insecure place, and artists, by nature, live in a very fragile state because they are more vulnerable. Oberoi is glad that these things are being spoken about and hopes that they will slowly go away. He explains that twenty years ago, the woke culture was missing and that the tsunami of fans’ support now scares a lot of people. However, he believes that things are getting better. He says that people are being more vocal, more decentralization of power, and fewer people are able to play God. Oberoi believes that Sushant Singh Rajput, the late actor, should never have lost his life no matter what. He finds it sad and believes that a talented young man like him should have had a better network of friends. He concludes by saying that if the industry is a family, then the family should be there for each other.
