Director SP Jananathan's Laabam has been lying on the shelves for several months due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The film features Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in lead roles. Unfortunately, director SP Jananathan died on March 14, 2021, after suffering a heart attack. One of his assistant directors found him lying unconscious at his home and rushed him to a hospital nearby. However, two days after being in ventilator support, Jananathan breathed his last. Meanwhile, there were rumors doing the rounds that Laabam will skip theatrical release and will directly release on an OTT platform. However, Vijay Sethupathi quashed the rumors and confirmed the film's theatrical release in a tweet.
The film's streaming rights have been sold to Netflix. The OTT platform is yet to announce when Laabam will be available for streaming. Laabam also stars Jagapathi Babu, Sai Dhanshika, Ramesh Thilak, Kalaiyarasan, Daniel Annie Pope, and late Nitish Veera in supporting roles.#Laabam Grand Release On September 9th in Theaters Near You #SPJhananathan @immancomposer @KalaiActor @vsp_productions @thilak_ramesh @7CsPvtPte @Aaru_Dir @yogeshdir @LahariMusic @proyuvraaj @sathishoffl pic.twitter.com/EraapMmpd1
