For the past few months, Vijay and his father SA Chandrasekhar have not been on good terms. In June 2020, director SA Chandrasekhar revealed that he has founded Vijay Makkal Iyakkam and even registered it with the Election Commission of India. However, this did not go down well with Vijay. He released a statement denying any connection to the political outfit and added that it was his father's doing. He also wrote that his fans need not be associated or work for the party just because it is in his name. He then issued a stern warning that no one should his name for the political agenda. Recently, Vijay filed a lawsuit against his parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba, along with 10 other representatives of the political outfit.
