Sanjay Chauhan, who wrote the critically acclaimed 2011 film I Am Kalam, died on Thursday of chronic liver disease at the H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.

He was 62 years old and had been in the hospital for ten days. He co-wrote Paan Singh Tomar, Saheb Biwi Gangster, and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns with Tigmanshu Dhulia. He also wrote Dhoop and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara.
According to ANI, his final rituals would be performed at Mumbai's Oshiwara cremation. The rites will be on Friday at 12.30 p.m. His wife Sarita and daughter Sara survive him. Chouhan was very involved in safeguarding the rights of the writing community.
Sanjay Chouhan is said to have been born and reared in Bhopal. His mother taught, and his father worked for the Indian Railways. He began his career as a journalist in Delhi before coming to Mumbai after authoring the Sony Television crime drama Bhanwar in the 1990s. He also contributed dialogue to Sudhir Mishra's critically acclaimed films. The 2003 film Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and the 2010 film Right Yaaa Wrong are examples.
His most significant work is the 2012 film Paan Singh Tomar. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and the National Film Award for Best Actor for the late actor Irrfan Khan. I Am Kalam also received numerous honors at international and national award shows and film festivals. The film earned Harsh Mayor, a child performer, the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
