Roman Reigns withdraws from WrestleMania 36; Concerned about COVID-19

Roman Reigns won’t be wrestling in the scheduled Universal championship match with Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania 36. He suffers from Leukemia and is immunocompetent, putting him at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19.

Pro Wrestling Sheet was the first to report that the 34-year-old WWE superstar withdrew from WrestleMania 36. The outlet also revealed that Reigns mentioned to WWE that he is feeling uncomfortable to do any Performance Center shows. Abiding by his request to WWE, his replacement in the match against Goldberg is being scheduled. The outlet added that the replacement is not yet disclosed.

Prior to dropping out, Reigns tweeted saying, “Don’t care where my match falls. Just happy to be healthy and fit enough to participate. Grateful to share the ring with a legend and icon on our industry’s biggest night(s). As should everyone else, in a time like this. Be safe, healthy and grateful.”

WrestleMania 36 is going to take place despite the COVID-19 pandemic, but none of the fans will be attending the same as priorly announced by WWE. The event was originally supposed to happen in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, but it is being moved to the WWE training center in Orlando. A recent statement released by WWE read that the event will stream live on April 5 at 7 p.m.
