Radhika Apte Speaks Out About Women Actors Being Judged On Their Looks

Radhika Apte, the lead actor in the upcoming spy comedy Mrs Undercover, recently spoke out about the way female actors are judged more on their looks than their talent. In an interview she recalled losing a role in a film because she was three or four kilos overweight. She also shared that, in the beginning of her career, she was often asked to alter her body in various ways. However, she noted that things have changed since then and people are now more aware of the issue. They will call out those who make such comments.

Mrs Undercover also stars Sumeet Vyas, Rajesh Sharma, and Saheb Chatterjee. It is directed and written by debutante Anushree Mehta. Apte has praised the film's portrayal of women who are underestimated and undervalued. She says that "Every household has a Durga. She is a woman who quietly goes about her work and doesn't get her due because she is considered 'just' a housewife. However, this film fights that mentality which prevails in our patriarchal society. And it's done beautifully under the guise of humour."

The film is set to premiere digitally on ZEE5 on April 14. Apte has expressed her excitement about the project, particularly her character Durga. "Durga is funny, kind, sincere, she is also clumsy and unsure of herself. And this film is her journey of discovering her own strength," she said in an interview with PTI.

In an industry where actors, particularly women, are often scrutinized for their appearance. Apte's comments shed light on the harmful effects of this type of judgment. However, with more awareness and support, it seems that the tide is beginning to turn. Talented actors like Apte are being recognized for their abilities rather than their size or shape.
