LockDown has a special impact on the film industry which no one has ever expected. The shoots of the movies have come to a halt. There are no releases lined up now. In the middle of all this, the OTT platforms are on the rise.RK Selvamani, the president of FEFSi spoke about the issues that the film industry is currently facing, in the latest interview.
In a special interview to The Hindu, FEFSI president RK Selvamani said their plan of action. Some of the points from the interview are here:
1. Cinema is not an essential, and will be one of the last industries to start working after lockdown.
2. It is not possible to maintain physical distancing during movie shoots.
3. Shooting in some limited way may begin in June.
4. But normalcy will return only in September.
5. The biggest challenge is to convince audiences to come to theatres.
6. The fans might come to theatres around Deepavali but not families.
FEFSI: The Film Employees Federation of South India. FEFSI is an Indian organization consisting of technicians from the Tamil film industry in Tamil Nadu, India. There are almost 23 unions under this Federation which belong to different trades in the film and television industry. Approximately, more than 25000 members are a part of this Federation. R.K. Selvamani, the husband of actress Roja heads the union now. RK Selvamani is an Indian film director, known to make films in the police or whodunit genres.
