Akshay Kumar's Ram Setu Secures 2nd Highest Opening For A Hindi Film In 2022 With Lukewarm Collections

Ram Setu, Akshay Kumar's much-anticipated action adventure film starring Satyadev, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Nushratt Bharuccha, was released in theatres on Diwali. With the inclusion of Cuttputlli, this was Akshay Kumar's fourth theatrical release of 2022, following Bachchhan Pandey, Samrat Prithviraj, and Raksha Bandhan, and his fifth overall. It locked horns with Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra, and Rakul Preet and led a comedy-drama directed by Indra Kumar, Thank God. Both films were launched on the most important ticketing day of the year, Govardhan Pooja. Both films began the Govardhan Pooja day with extremely low advance bookings but saw good movement in terms of bookings during the day.

For the first day, Ram Setu had a net opening of between Rs. 14.5 crores and 15.25 crore. The figures are the highest for Akshay Kumar in 2022 and the second highest for a Hindi film, trailing only Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva. The 3 multiplexes contributed Rs. 6.44 crore net, comfortably more than its competition, Thank God. These figures, however, are scant comfort given that the film got wide distribution on Govardhan Pooja and had far more promise than it received. The picture must hold well over the following four days in order to attain a respectable total, which appears to be an uphill fight given its midweek release. According to foreign statistics, it is a very low opening day, similar to Bachchhan Pandey and Samrat Prithviraj, both of which failed to create an international impact.
