Earlier this year, in March, we had reported that actress Aishwarya Rajesh had linked up with Lock-up filmmaker Charles for a new movie that would fall under the thriller comedy category. The film's title, Soppana Sundari, has now been announced by the producers. For aficionados of Tamil movies, the term Soppana Sundari is instantly recognizable because it was featured in the popular comedy track of the classic film Karagattakaran, which starred Goundamani and Senthil. Director Venkat Prabhu (the son of Karagattakaran director Gangai Amaren) used a song with the same name in his cricket comedy Chennai 600028 II.
Charles had already stated that the film won't be a usual female-centered one. "We've seen films with female-centric scripts like Aruvi and Kolamavu Kokila. This film will be different, too, where we've gone a notch higher with her characterization. Aishwarya plays a salesgirl in the film, a girl who lives in north Madras, someone who shows strength and can't be defeated. Her ideologies are so extreme that it is difficult to break through. Similar to how Aravind Swami's character in Thani Oruvan had an ideology, hers, too, has a different ideology. But hers is a positive one," he had said.
Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli, a National Award-winning actress, will play a significant role in this movie, which also stars Karunakaran, Redin Kingsley, Deepa Shankar, Mime Gopi, and Sunil Reddy. Shivathmika and Ajmal are composing the movie's music.
