Sei Story

The opening scene of Sei is high on emotions as a mental asylum in the city catches fire and thirty mentally challenged people are charred to death. Minister Rajarathinam (Thalaivaasal Vijay) takes the responsibility and resigns from his position.

Later, a crime reporter reveals that the fire at the asylum was pre-planned by an organ trafficking gang. When Rajarathinam tries to react, he gets murdered.

Meanwhile, aspiring actor Saravedi Saravanan (Nakkul) is scolded by his dad for being irresponsible. His father suffers a heart attack and that is when Saravanan disguises as an ambulance driver for the money. He gets to know that the deceased person’s relatives are part of the organ trafficking mafia.

How does Saravanan escape from them and manage to bring their wrongdoings before the law forms the rest of the story.

Sei Performances

Nakkul is back after a brief hiatus and it is safe to say he has played a role close to his real self. He’s hyper and full of joy.

Debutante actress Aanchal Munjal has done a neat job but, she doesn’t have a solid role to play in this intriguing script.

Sei is also backed by flawless performances by veteran actors Nasser and Prakash Raj.

Sei Positives

Malayalam director Raj Babu is making his directorial debut in Kollywood with Sei. He has chosen an intriguing script that makes up for an engaging action thriller.

The first half of Sei keeps you on toes and would make you want for more as the story progresses.

Nakkul’s performance as Saravedi Saravanan is a huge plus to Sei. As an over-enthusiastic and happy-go-lucky-guy, he has delivered a memorable performance.

Cinematographer Vijay Ulaganathan’s work in Sei needs a special mention. The frames look colourful and warm to the eyes.

Sei Negatives

Even though the story of Sei is interesting, it is let down by a dull screenplay which takes away the thrill factor the story should have.

Aanchal Munjal could have had a dream debut if she had a proper role to play. Her character is extremely underwritten to the fact that she disappears after a few minutes.

Another major drawback of Sei is that the dull characterisations written for Prakash Raj and Nasser. They have done their part well but it is just not enough to save the film from being a mediocre film.

Chandrika Ravi, who made a glorious debut with adult-comedy Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu, is at her glamourous best. Sadly, her presence doesn’t create a huge impact that it is intended to do so.

Sei Verdict

Sei could have been an edge-of-the-seat action thriller, but it fails to be so. However, there are certain moments in the film that are worth watching. It is said to see a good premise being wasted by makers and the script-to-screen translation was a big failure with Sei.

Overall, Sei is an average action thriller that is interesting in a few apps.
