Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo Movie Review:
Allu Arjun and Trivikram Srinivas combination carry success on their shoulders. The director and actor already came up with Julayi and Son of Satyamurthy in the past. Both the movies are different from one another and have a perfect family drama. Likewise, they came up with 'Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo' now which has a predictable plot but Trivikram's writing and execution keep us away from predicting the same. The film actually works in that particular aspect. Narrating an age-old known story in a manner that keeps the audiences engaged in the movie but forget everything that they already knew.
The film tells the story of Valmiki (Murli Sharma), who works as a clerk in an ARK company. Out of jealousy and greed, he swaps his newborn child with another newborn child of his boss Ramu (Jayaram). The rest of the story is all about Valmiki bringing up Ramu's son Bantu (Allu Arjun) as his and what happens when Bantu finally learns the truth. The storyline is very thin. There are many loose-ends too. But, Trivikram cleverly covered up all of them with entertainment. The film is a breezy light-hearted entertainer laced with proper emotions.
Drama is something that connects well with anyone. Everyone's life has drama and every one tastes it in different forms. The greatest hits and classics in history have strong dramas. Trivikram Srinivas is one of the very few filmmakers who can write drama so simple yet so beautiful. Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo has good writing. Trivikram could have given a perfect finishing to the same but he chose to leave it simple and presented it in an entertaining manner. No one else could have pulled off the film's title so well and in a similar manner, when he writes drama, it comes up with a lot of garnishing like comedy, sentiment, romance, and other elements.
Not every character in the film is crucial in the film but the film has a good supporting cast. Murli Sharma, Jayaram, Sachin Khedkar, Tabu, and Allu Arjun are the leads in the film. The rest of the cast including the heroine
Pooja Hegde supports the main cast. Eeshwari Rao is a pillar of support to the cast. All the actors made their presence felt including Samuthrakhani. The best part of Trivikram's movies is always the antagonists but this time, his antagonist is not so strong, but at the same time, not weak too. His characterization also comes under the loose ends that Trivikram chose to ignore.
Allu Arjun is one of the major assets for the film. The way he owned the character is amazing. From film to film, there is a lot of maturity in Allu Arjun and his selection of scripts is just awesome. His dialogue delivery, mannerisms, action sequences, and dance is superb. In the second half, there is one particular board meeting sequence where Allu Arjun dances to the songs of Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan, Jr NTR and Chiranjeevi and it is a treat to watch for all the fans. Mega fans, especially Allu Arjun fans will enjoy it thoroughly.
Technically, the film looks brilliant. From cinematography of PS Vinod to Thaman's music, everything about the film is stunning. Thaman's audio album is a huge hit and there is no second thought about it. His background score is as impressive as the audio album. The camerawork is awesome. The artwork is excellent. The editing is good.
The first half of the movie is entertaining with a good dose of fun that comes from the characterizations of Allu Arjun and Murli Sharma. The second half of the movie balances entertainment and emotion perfectly. Murli Sharma's performance is one of the major highlights of the movie. The movie has good and bad characters but everyone has the purpose of doing their own good and bad. Trivikram's writing really worked like magic. Trivikram is a master in writing conversations and your heart just fills with happiness and a sense of satisfaction after watching the film. It's a simple, sweet and breezy movie that has everything in the right place.
