A magnitude 6.4 earthquake rocked Southern California, triggering fires and a hospital evacuation. The US Geological Survey said the quake was centred near Ridgecrest, an inland Kern County city about 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles. More than 1,000 large aftershocks rolled through the region in the minutes that followed. Seismologist Lucy Jones said it was the strongest quake to hit the California state in 20 years. The earthquake was felt not only in Los Angeles but also in Las Vegas
