On October 16, 1997, The Queen attended the launch at MGR Film City. She went to the locations and observed the filming of a brief war scene. According to reports, a budget of Rs 1.5 crore was used to shoot the battle scene alone. On the sets of the Indian film, which was made with a large budget and a lot of buzz but failed to find an audience, Queen Elizabeth spent time with Kamal Haasan, his then-wife Sarika, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
It was a challenging undertaking for Kamal Haasan because he was directing, producing, and acting in the role of Muhammed Yusuf Khan, a fighter from the 18th century. It was produced at the time on a luxurious budget of 85 crores but was abandoned when the international corporation sponsoring the expenditure pulled out. Even Kate Winslet was approached for playing Marsha, the movie's lead female, but she declined, forcing Kamal to travel to Europe in search of a proper star cast.
On September 9, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96. The royal family's official Twitter handle acknowledged the news, writing, "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon." The statement continued, "The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
