Director Mani Ratnam's dream for 40 years has been about adapting Kalki Krishnamurthy's Ponniyin Selvan into a film. His dream was realised as the first part of Ponniyin Selvan hit the theatres on September 30. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Karthi played lead roles in the film. Trisha was seen as princess Kundavai in director Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. Since the film is set in the 10th century, the actress had to take inspiration from period films to play her role. During an interview with a popular YouTube channel, Trisha said that she received interesting advice from director Mani Ratnam while getting into the skin of her character.
