With the release of Gumraah, which also stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur, Deepak Kalra will make a major acting debut. In the movie, he portrays Aditya's childhood mate and goes by the name "Chaddi." He aids the main character in the scams and establishes Ronnie's narrative in the movie. Beginning as a junior artist, Kalra recently revealed that he worked his way up the ladder before landing his role in the Thadam remake.
He spoke about his early years as a junior artist and added, "I began my career as a junior artist in the film Rockstar. I was paid Rs. 750 for that gig. All I ever wanted was to reach the big screen. When a coordinator called me for the Rockstar shoot, my mother and I were so happy as if I was offered the lead role." Deepak kept looking for work in movies, and Bittoo Boss, the directorial debut of Pulkit Samrat, gave him his next chance. On the other hand, he was hunting for thicker work while he was working on little roles and television commercials and advertisements, and it took him ten years to land his first successful series, Guilty Minds.
The megastar Shahrukh Khan also had a significant part in Deepak's life, he said. Deepak served as the model for Shahrukh's portrayal of the Delhi youngster Gaurav. Said the actor, "His accent and way of talking was all me. Shahrukh sir many times in his interview mentioned me and called me on stage and it was then when media started to give me attention".
The actor revealed that after landing his first acting job, he travelled directly by rickshaw to Shahrukh Khan's home in Mumbai to have a peek at it. He also shared his strange experience of visiting Mannat when he first moved to the city and then being asked to Khan's house eight years later for working with Khan on the movie Fan.
In numerous movies including Rockstar, Bitto Boss, and Jai Mummy Di, Deepak has contributed as a junior artist. He received his major break in the 2022 online series Guilty Minds, in which he played the fictional son of the late actor Satish Kaushik.
Gumraah, his latest film, stars Aditya Roy Kapur in a dual character. Mrunal Thakur plays a cop. The scheduled release date is April 7, 2023.
