New Delhi: The new leadership moves to avoid competition in Congress working committee. Appointed AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge hinted that they would try to decide the members through consensus. The leaders who stand with them will write a letter to the leadership demanding that Shashi Tharoor be included in the working committee.
After the election of the president, the challenge before the Congress is the election of the working committee. The rule is that within three months of the chairman assuming office, a plenary session should be called and the election of the working committee should be held. Eleven people may be nominated by the Chairman. 12 people should be found through an election. But for the last twenty-five years, the working committee members have been decided by consensus in the party. Mallikarjuna Kharge gives an indication that this will continue.
Reportedly, if the contest takes place, it may lead to an explosion in the party. But it is indicated that the move is to keep those close to the leadership. Since the chairman is from South India, people from North Indian states will get more consideration for the working committee. The supporters want Shashi Tharoor to be included as one of the eleven nominated members. They will issue a letter stating that Tharoor, who got 1072 votes, does not need to contest again and become a member. The working committee is expected to include leaders from Kerala such as Ramesh Chennithala, K Muralidharan, Kodikunvil Suresh, and others. The G23 leaders have also moved to demand competition if their own people are being included.
