AAP Announces Former TV Anchor Isudan Gadhvi As CM Candidate.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominated former TV presenter and journalist Isudan Gadhvi as its chief ministerial candidate for Gujarat's Assembly elections next month on Friday. The statement was made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who stated that the 40-year-old Gadhvi received up to 73% of the vote in a party election.

Gadhvi was pitted against Gopal Italia, the state party unit chairman who was instrumental in the Patidar community struggle. He is from a farming family in Dwarka's Pipaliya village and belongs to the state's other backward castes, which comprise 48% of the population.

According to Kejriwal, the party held the election by asking people to vote for their preferred chief ministerial candidate. He had stated that people may submit their ideas until November 3 evening and that the identity of the party's chief ministerial face will be published the next day based on their votes.

Kejriwal had also stated at the time, "During the Punjab elections, we polled the public to choose who should be the next chief minister. The vast majority of people named Bhagwant Mann. And we appointed him as chief minister based on popular demand."

The AAP published their ninth list of ten candidates for the Gujarat elections on Thursday, bringing the total number of candidates whose names have been announced to 118. The 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be elected in two stages next month, on December 1 and 5, with votes tallied on December 8.
