Ponniyin Selvan was one of the biggest hits of all time in Tamil cinema. The first part of the franchise, which Mani Ratnam described as his dream project, hit theatres on September 30, 2022. Since then, the wait for the second part has started among movie lovers. The film will hit theatres worldwide on April 28. The makers are on a nationwide promotional spree, building up the pre-release hype. Now actor Karthi has come forward to explain why Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 was not accepted by the audience in North India. Karti disclosed this in a press conference. Karthi says that North Indians may not have understood the story immediately.
The question Karti faced was why the success of Pushpa and Kantara did not win PS1 in North India. His reply was as follows:
"I think they (the North Indian audience) had a bit of a hard time understanding the story. That's what I felt when I checked the reception of the PS1 in North India. Imagine reading a novel with many characters' names. By the time you reach page 10, you may have forgotten some of their names. This may have happened with PS1 too," said Karthi. But Karthi said that PS1 got good feedback after its OTT release. "After watching the film on OTT, many people said that it was well received. So when Ponniyin Selvan 2 releases, it will get a good response in North India," added Karthi.
Karthi plays the role of Vanthiyathevan in Ponniyin Selvan. Karthi said that he feels extremely lucky when he plays his favourite character. "I think each of us is lucky to be a part of this project. My mother does not talk to me about my film or work. But my mother was thrilled when she saw me as Vanthiyathevan in PS1. Mom talked a lot about it,"says Karti.
