While most film industries across the world are struggling to keep up with the Coronavirus scare some old films have now sprouted back once again. As large cities go into quarantine families are busy streaming and watching films in their homes. As a result of this, Steven Soderbergh's directed Contagion has now become the second most-watched film for Warner Bros.
Contagion first came out in 2011. The film follows the story of a deadly virus that spreads across the world and kills thousands in its trail. The film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, Kate Winslet and Jude Law. Now with Coronavirus travelling and infecting thousands of people across the world Contagion has sparked people's interests. However, Contagion is only a fictional account of a made-up pandemic. The contagion virus kills almost 26 million people worldwide. This number far exceeds any pandemic that had ever come up in the real world.
Warner Bros themselves released the information about Contagion recently. The film was on the 270th rank of the most-watched film until December 2019. Now with Coronavirus being a worldwide pandemic, it has become the second most-watched film for Warner Bros. The only film that tops Contagion is now the Harry Potter franchise.
New York Times also reported on this sudden film coming back on the screens of many family televisions. The film is available on Amazon prime and I-Tunes. The writer of the film Scott Burns said that people need to remember that the film is fiction and to not compare it to Coronavirus. " The similarities between our Contagion and the coronavirus are immaterial, accidental and really not that important. What is more important and accurate is the societal response and the spread of fear and the knock-on effects of that. That is proving to be accurate," he said.
