The director was transported back to Rakesh Roshan's 1995 film Karan Arjun. The film starred the two actors as brothers. Rakesh happened to be in the same theatre as Vasan when he saw the movie.
Taking to Instagram, the ecstatic filmmaker posted an image with the caption, "SK says ‘Bhaag Pathaan Bhaag'. And this happens as Rakesh Roshan is in the cinema hall! Come On!" His caption stated,
Salman Khan and Shah Rukh play brothers who try to avenge their father's death but are murdered in Karan Arjun. They reincarnate and meet again years later. The 'Bhaag Arjun Bhaag' dialogue connects them across their lives.
The director made his directorial debut with the quirky comedy Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota. The film starred Abhimanyu, Radhika Madan, and Gulshan Devaiah. He made his debut after assisting director Anurag Kashyap on Dev D (2009) and Bombay Velvet (2015). His most recent project was the critically acclaimed Netflix film Monica O My Darling. The film starred Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, and Sikandar Kher.
Pathaan also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. The film premiered on January 25 to packed houses across the country. The Siddharth Anand film grossed 57 crores on its first day. It earned more than 70 crores on its second day. Strong word of mouth suggests that the action film will do well at the box office during this extended five-day holiday for Republic Day.
