Many films that failed at the time of theatrical release later became huge hits when released on other platforms. In the past, many such films were recognised during television and DVD releases, but now it happens through OTT releases. An example of this in recent Malayalam cinema was Dear Friend, directed by Vineeth Kumar and starring Tovino Thomas. Now Vineeth Kumar has shared another joy about the film. The film has been selected for the 21st Dhaka International Film Festival.
Dear Friend, which hit theatres on June 10, was Tovino's second theatrical release this year. Darshana Rajendran, Arjun Lal, Basil Joseph, Arjun Radhakrishnan, and Sanjana Natarajan have played other important roles. This is a film directed by Vineet Kumar after the film Nhaa Ngaalla. But the film got a bad response in theatres. Many theatres had to cancel shows in the early days. But with its release on Netflix on July 10th, the film became the talk of social media cinema groups.
The film tells the story of five friends. Cinematography by Shaiju Khalid. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Sharafu, Suhas, and Arjunlal. The film is produced by Shaiju Khalid, Sameer Tahir, and Ashiq Usman under the banners of Happy Hours Entertainments and Ashiq Usman Productions.
