Kamal Haasan is a self-proclaimed fan of Ponniyin Selvan. The film was released on September 30 in multiple languages. He recently watched the film at Jazz Cinemas in Chennai along with Chiyaan Vikram and Karthi. He met the media and spoke about how much he was in awe of Mani Ratnam's film.
Kamal Haasan said, "I am meeting the media as a fan of Tamil cinema and as a producer. I am jealous of Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, and the other actors who acted in the film. I am happy with the exceptional response that Ponniyin Selvan has been receiving. I was awestruck seeing the film and I feel that every Tamilian would have felt the same pride."
He further added, "My heart is swelling with pride that Mani Ratnam accomplished this. I feel the golden age of Tamil cinema has begun. I am happy to enjoy the success of Ponniyin Selvan with the team. I was supposed to play Vanthiyathevan and Sivaji Ganesan sir felt that I would make a good Arulmozhi Varman. I know how difficult it is to film war sequences. It feels like I produced this epic. This enthusiasm and family-like atmosphere should last long in Tamil cinema."
Kamal Haasan then joked, "You guys could have played Part 2 as well." Karthi replied, saying, "in 8 months sir."
