This is how Sandalwood celebrated Ugadi amidst COVID-19

Ugadi marks the beginning of the New Year in the southern State of Karnataka. However, with the lockdown and Section 144 in place, the celebrations will remain muted this year. Sandalwood views Ugadi as an auspicious day. A lot of announcements are made on this occasion; many film shoot also begins on this day. Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, Sandalwood has taken a back seat and muted its celebrations. Many film personalities have asked people to adhere to the quarantine precautions and have quite Ugadi at home.

Here is how Sandalwood wishes to celebrate Ugadi:

“I will donate the money I normally splurge on myself. This time of the year is doubly special for me as it has both Navratri and Ugadi. I wanted to fast for eight days and have a big ceremony on a ninth day, but that won’t happen. Instead, this year, I plan on using the time to reach out to those in need. I have already begun by donating masks and gloves,” says actress Ragini Dwivedi.

“ I want to make the most of the time with family. Ugadi is a time to meet everyone in the family and other loved ones. This year, though, since we are social distancing, we will not have family over at our place. We plan on making the most of our time together at home. We will have a small puja, of course, followed by a simple, traditional meal,” says actress Priyanka Upendra

“ I used to visit relatives during Ugadi but I will remain at home on the Ugadi festival due to coronavirus. I advise people to prepare the auspicious dish – bevvy Bella (a mixture of neem and jaggery) and Ugadi package that has six different tastes such as sweet, sour, salt, pungent, spice and bitter,” says National Award-winning actress Tara.

“ Since the shutdown, I have been at home with my family. We keep switching between watching movies, playing games and chatting. Every day feels like an extended weekend, and I think we’ ll be doing the same on Ugadi too. It is going to be yet another day spent with my family and loved ones during this quarantine,” says actress Ashika Ranganath.
