The Laal Singh Chaddha OTT Contract Is Back In The Discussion Mix Between Aamir Khan And Netflix, With A Handshake Agreed To At A Cheaper Price Of Roughly Rs. 90 Cr.
Aamir desired an amount of 150 cr. But as the movie didn't do well in theaters, the prices dropped.
According to our source, Aamir Khan wanted Rs. 150 crores from Netflix. In addition, Aamir stipulated that Laal Singh Chaddha should debut on Netflix only six months after its theatrical debut since he was considering a release in China. After the movie debacle, Netflix even lowered their offer to Rs. 50 crores from its initial offer of Rs. 80–90 crores. As a result, the agreement didn't go through because Aamir was hesitant to accept such an amount leading to his final price of Rs. 125 cr. Laal Singh Chaddha, which was co-produced by Network18's Viacom18 Studios and was supported by Network18, was reportedly planned to be released on Voot, according to the source.
According to a source, "Aamir Khan and Netflix officials resumed discussions once more and were this time successful in finding a common ground. They understood that they might both gain from this agreement. For Aamir Khan, Netflix's sizable global subscriber base will aid in the movie's global distribution. While this was going on, Netflix discovered that Laal Singh Chaddha had performed exceptionally well overseas, indicating that a segment of the class audience had accepted the movie. Additionally, the movie has received heavy promotion from Viacom18 Studios' parent company, Paramount Pictures. Aamir is very well-known in the West. These reasons led Netflix to believe that it made sense to purchase the movie. Instead of the six-month window, it will likely debut on Netflix eight weeks after it is released.
At the end of the second weekend, Laal Singh Chaddha had reportedly earned USD 7.5 million (about Rs. 59.89 crores). It has succeeded in surpassing The Kashmir Files (USD 5.7 million), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (USD 5.88 million), and Gangubai Kathiawadi (USD 7.47 million) to take the top spot among foreign box office earners in 2022. Bollywood movies that have performed better abroad than at home are uncommon. It has brought in Rs. 56.03 crores in India till August 2022.
The source went on to say, "As for the price, both parties have reached in an agreement. The Rs. 125 crores that Aamir Khan wanted from the streaming service have not been provided. At the same time, they didn't even compel Rs. 80 crores as they had in the past. The cost has been kept a secret and is somewhere in the center. The price is currently estimated to be around Rs. 90 crores. The deal will probably be inked this week, and an announcement will come soon".
