Taapsee Pannu has always been vocal about the prevalent sexism in Bollywood. She has come out time and again, pointing out the various patriarchal undercurrents that have shaped and continue to shape Bollywood. The actress during the promotion of her upcoming movie Shabaash Mithu, a biopic, where she plays the cricketer Mithali Raj, points out how the growth of OTT platforms has helped women's stories to reach out to a wider audience.
“Especially women artists are being celebrated on OTT because the risk factor is not there. The variable amount of theatrical return gets eliminated. You are not worried about how much the film will make basis performance. So, the risk-taking factor has increased, because you know that you will make the film in this much amount be it with a male protagonist or a female protagonist, you will get this much in return. And you don’t have to worry about, you know, losing money. Hence, the risk joh take karne ki himmat hoti hai na,who badh jaati hai logo ki.”
