Jai Bhim, Suriya's critically praised film, is currently facing legal issues once more. Reports state that on August 25, the Chennai police received a FIR against filmmaker TJ Gnanavel.
The person on whom the character in the movie is based, V Kilanjiyappan, is said to have filed the lawsuit. The complainant claims that the film's creators used his story but neglected to provide him the royalties they had originally promised. The filmmaker TJ Gnanavel and the production company owned by Suriya that put out the movie have been sued under the Copyright Act Section 63 (a).
According to reports, Kilanjiyappan spoke about the crimes the police committed against members of the indigenous communities in 1993. Additionally, he stated that the film's producers promised a 50 lakh rupee royalty. He further complained that the entire movie had only painted the tragedy in a negative light and that it had taken advantage of the victims. In the movie "Jai Bhim," which focuses on police discrimination against the tribal group, police brutality toward the underprivileged community is discussed. The movie is based somewhat on the writings of judge and attorney Krishnawami Chandru.
