The 68th National Film Awards have been announced. Aparna Balamurali won the best actress award for her role in Soorarai Potru. The best actor award went to Suriya for his performance in Soorarai Potru and Ajay Devgan for his performance in Tanhaji.

 
This year’s National Awards witnessed total domination of the South Indian film industry. In particular, the Tamil and Malayalam industries stood at the top of the list. Together, both industries have grabbed almost every award at the 68th National Awards.
 
Sachy won the best director award for Ayyappanum Koshiyum’s direction. The best film is Surarai Potru, directed by Sudha Konkara. Biju Menon won the best supporting actor award for his performance in Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Nanchiamma grabbed the best playback singer award through Ayyappanum Koshiyum.
 
Through Surarai Poteau, G.V. Prakash won the award for best music director. Soorarai Potru and Mandela won the best screenplay award as well.
 
The award for best Malayalam film was given to Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, directed by Senna Hegde. The movie Vank got a special mention.
 
Madhya Pradesh has been selected as the most film-friendly state. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand got special mention for being the Film Friendly States.
