It is common knowledge that in recent years, OTT platforms have released movies shortly after their theatrical debuts. The movie remains on the site indefinitely, and it is also evident that other movies perform well there. With so many movies available on these platforms, there is frequent pressure on films to keep up with the competition. The Uunchai director provided the most collected response when Bollywood Hungama questioned the seasoned filmmaker about the competition on OTT and what his motto is to compete with this vast encyclopedia of films.
Sooraj Barjatya said about the OTT competition, “Main pressure nahi leta hoon because agar aap competition mein jayenge toh originality nahi de payenge. Sab humari sincerity pe hai. Aap achhi kahani le jismein nau ras ho aur aap apni kahani ko justify karein. Agar kahani demand karti hai ki crore rupaiyee kharch karne hai toh kariye but aap apne kahani ko justice kariye. Agar competition karenge toh woh nainsaafi hogi. (I don’t take any pressure because if we keep thinking about competition, we will not be able to give you originality. What we need is sheer sincerity. Take a good story which has all the nine rasas and make sure that you justify the story. If your story demands a big budget film worth crores of rupees, then do it because all is fair as far as you can do justice to it. If you get into the competition race, then that would be unfair.)”
Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Anupam Kher, together with Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Parineeti Chopra, have major roles in Sooraj Barjatya's upcoming film Uunchai. The movie is scheduled to be out on November 11.
