The 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has kickstarted in Goa, last night. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting made sure it to be a gala event, considering it is the golden jubilee edition of the festival. Renowned Hindi film director Karan Johar has hosted the show.
Iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan has attended the event as the chief guest. He was also felicitated for getting the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. On the flip side, Superstar Rajinikanth also attended the event and he got the special award, 'Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI.' French actress Isabelle Huppert got conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The opening night event also included various cultural activities as well. But the one which stood out among them is the musical performances by Shankar Mahadevan and Jazz artist Louis Banks. Shankar rocked the stage by singing his hit tracks. The breathless song performance remained the highlight of the event.
IFFI will continue for eight more days and concludes on the 28th of November. Thousands of delegates are attending the festival. Over 200 films, made in 76 countries, will get screened in various competitive as well as the non-competitive sections of the festival.
