Shakthisree Gopalan Talks About Aga Naga From Ponniyin Selvan

The first single, Aga Naga, from Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2, is a blockbuster song from the album. Composed by AR Rahman, the song features Trisha and Karthi as Kundavai and Vanthiyathevan. Speaking to The Times of India, Shakthisree Gopalan said, "The full-length version of the song in Tamil was recorded in 2020. This is much before the release of PS-1. This was the first song I recorded in the studio after the lockdown. At the time, I didn’t know that Rahman sir was going to be placing it in such an iconic moment in the background score. I had the honour of recording that portion of the song in all five languages for the background score. For PS-2, I recorded the full length version in Telugu and Malayalam in addition to the Tamil version."

She further added, "The composition feels like a river or a stream that is flowing and trickling through nature, and I think being able to flow and be one with the composition in itself was the challenge. I think it involves both restraint and letting go; Like swimming, you have to relax to save your breath. The magic and the spirit of this song was already woven into the composition and there is a sense of regalia in the melody, the arrangement, the orchestration, the metering of the words and every single element. I was briefed that this song was in the POV of the Chola princess and approaching it with that knowledge certainly helped."
