Salman Khan was present at a press conference on Tuesday in Mumbai. The actor claimed that he has consistently said that "Hindi films are not working" while discussing the current box office failure of Bollywood movies. Salman discussed how today's filmmakers are "too cool" and explained why he believes that to be the case. He also criticized their "understanding of India."
Many Bollywood movies have struggled at the box office since the Covid-19 pandemic, except recent releases Pathaan by Shah Rukh Khan and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 from last year. At a recent event, Salman was asked about it after he remarked that directors weren't making the right pictures.
“I have been saying this for a long time that our Hindi films are not working. Galat picture banaoge toh kaise chalegi (If you make wrong movies, how will they work)? Today filmmakers have a different understanding of India. They feel it’s from Andheri to Colaba. The filmmakers that I have met and interacted with; they are too cool. They make that kind of content. However, Hindustan is way different. They start from the east of the railway stations", Salman was quoted by ETimes as having said during a recent media event.
He continued, “I hope my words don’t come to bite me. Bhari nahi padhna chaiye (People shouldn’t question what kind of a film I have made). It (Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan) is releasing on April 21 and I hope everyone likes it.”
Salman's most recent appearance on the big screen was a cameo in Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan. Radhe (2021), his final movie in a leading role, received poor box office results. Salman is currently preparing for his next movie Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which stars Pooja Hegde.
