As Monisha Sarabhai in the popular TV series Sarabhai Vs. Sarabhai, which premiered in 2004, Rupali Ganguly rose to fame. Her portrayal of the eccentric and endearing character won her a tonne of fans and propelled her to sudden fame. Since then, Rupali has made countless appearances in TV shows, movies, and theatrical productions, solidifying her reputation as a multifaceted actress. She is currently portraying the main role in Anupamaa, one of the most well-liked Hindi TV shows, which is supported by Rajan Shahi.
Rupali Ganguly admitted in a recent podcast interview with Ranveer Allahbadia that she was a little taken aback to find that Rajan Shahi was the show's producer. Rupali clarified that their working relationship at the time was not the most professional because Rajan had also directed her in her debut performance. Hence, her initial response was one of surprise when she learned that he would be making Anupamaa, shouting, "arey baap re!"
She said, “I respect Rajan ji a lot, but the first ever show that I did was Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahi, it was telecast in the year 2000. Rajan ji was the director. He was a first-time director, and back then, I was very misbehaved. I was very unprofessional. I didn’t know how TV functioned, and there was a lot of learning to do. As it is, you’re looked down upon for doing TV because people assumed you’d ‘flopped in films’.”
She continued, “I wasn’t sure if he’d cast me, because I’d troubled him a lot on the first show. The first thing that he asked me was, ‘Have you grown up?’ And I said, ‘Yes, I have a child now’. And Rajan ji decided to cast me. I didn’t know the show was called Anupamaa, till the trailer came in.”
She wasn't the top pick for the part, according to Rupali, and she didn't even rank in the top five. Yet, she has expertly individualized the role. Anupamaa has grown to be one of the most favoured tv programs.
