Radio jockey turned RJ Balaji tried his hands at comedy and went on to do 25 odd films including Mani Ratnam's Kaatru Veliyidai. He then decided to become a writer with LKG and subsequently a director with Mookuthi Amman. Both films were profitable and enjoyed widely by the audience. He is currently working on Veetla Viseshanga, which is the official Tamil remake of the Hindi blockbuster film, Badhaai Ho. The Hindi film starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, and Gajraj Rao in lead roles. The shooting of the Tamil remake was progressing at a brisk pace in Coimbatore. RJ Balaji revealed the same while commentating for a Chennai Super Kings match on Star Sports Tamil.
