The Coronavirus pandemic that the world is currently dealing with has also led to many hate crimes related to racism against Asian communities. From attacks on Chinese people in America to public harassment of people from the northeast in India. Recently singer and Indian Idol finalist Meiyang Chang shared a video of himself where he jokingly says, "My name is Chang and I'm not Coronavirus."
Chang also shared a story from the time when two guys on a bike called him Coronavirus and drove off. Chang also added saying, "Jokingly, someone was made to realize that even if you are from this country, you don't belong here. Go back to China, Nepal or wherever you are from... This is casual racism, and it is not cool."
He added saying, "I go for a jog every day near my house in Mumbai. The other day, two guys sped past me on a bike, screaming 'corona' and laughing. I wanted to scream back and hurl the choicest of gaalis, but I didn't see any point in it. How do you punish people for their stupidity or ignorance? Over the years, I have become used to these comments and yes, they are hurtful. I try to move on and be optimistic, but it does affect you."
Now actress
Raveena Tandon and Sonal Chauhan have both come in support of Meiyang Chang. Raveena took to social media to express her support to the singer. She wrote, "Chang you got me teary eyed! Wanna get to you and give you a big hug! This is such an important message, I hope it reaches many. Much love (sic)."
Actress Sonal Chauhan also wrote a loving message for Chang. She wrote, "What a beautiful message and even more beautifully told @meiyangchang. Big hug (sic)."
