The renowned director Jean-Luc Godard, widely regarded as the founder of French New Wave filmmaking, died on Tuesday night at the age of 91. According to a local newspaper and news agency Reuters, the development has been confirmed. Godard is renowned for his iconic films like "Breathless" and "Contempt," which expanded the boundaries of cinema and gave it a new dimension.
The well-known director, who has since ascended to heaven, reportedly declared that "Cinema is the most beautiful fraud in the world". Immediately upon the announcement of Jean-Luc Godard's death on Tuesday (September 13), tributes began to stream in from international leaders, fellow filmmakers, artists, and cinephiles all around the world.
French President Emmanuel Macron paid his respects by writing on Twitter in French. In his opinion, Godard was "the most iconoclastic of the New Wave filmmakers, who had invented a resolutely modern, intensely free art. We are losing a national treasure, a look of genius."
Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh paid his respects to the late great director in a moving tribute as well. On his Instagram story this morning, Singh posted a monochrome image of the director without a caption.
According to the Indian Express, Godard was born on December 3, 1930, in the affluent Seventh Arrondissement of Paris, to a privileged Franco-Swiss family.
