As the character of Randeep Hooda saved for the last, there has been a lot of curiosity around his role in Love Aaj Kal. The Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan's film is a depiction of the love of two different time periods. While talking to HT in an interview, Randeep gave details about his role in the film. His character is the same as what Rishi Kapoor played in the previous Love Aaj Kal. Randeep will be telling his own tale to Sara's character Zoe in the film.
But would Randeep had played this role named Raj for any other film? He answers the question in his own way. Randeep said, "When I came into the industry, and for the longest time that I was a part of it, Raj epitomized the conventional, stereotypical, romantic Bollywood hero at that time and the whole attempt was to never give in to the convention and find your own path. After 19 years of doing that, finally, Imtiaz puts me into a movie as Raj but, of course, it had to be unconventional and I would have never done it for anybody but Imtiaz.”
This will be the third collaboration of Imtiaz and Randeep. Earlier he played the role of a truck driver in Highway and Diana Penty's husband in Cocktail. Imtiaz himself agrees that his ideas about love are more evolved and that's what he tries to showcase in his films. In an interview with PTI, the director said, "More than a shift, it’s an evolution. The earlier concepts, I had, ‘Let’s say ‘Socha Na Tha’, of love relationships have not replaced itself by another concept. It’s become more detailed and varied. It’s not that I’m looking in a different place. I’m looking at the same place, but you see different shades within that. I think movies that I make will have no option but to reflect that in some way or the other."
