The most-awaited audio launch and trailer launch of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1 will feature Kollywood legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The two leading ladies will take part in a grand event that will include a live performance of the film's songs by composer AR Rahman and his orchestra.
The event will take place on September 6, at 6 p.m., at Chennai's Nehru Indoor Stadium. Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman (considered one of the best director-composer combos in Tamil cinema) have worked together for 30 years, beginning with Roja.
Siva Ananth, executive producer at Mani Ratnam's production company, Madras Talkies, writes in a press release, "Mr. A R Rahman will perform the songs from 'Ponniyin Selvan Part 1' live with his orchestra during the evening, in the presence of two of the Indian film industry's stalwarts, Mr. Kamal Haasan and Mr. Rajinikanth. The musical treat will be interspersed with speeches from several leading film industry figures, as well as the cast, crew, and partners of our film."
Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1, an adaptation of Tamil writer Kalki's epic five-part historical novel, stars a pan-Indian cast that includes Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayam Ravi, Shobita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Vikram Prabh The film's visuals were created by award-winning cinematographer Ravi Varman, and it was edited by multiple National Award winner Sreekar Prasad.
The makers have already released two songs from the film, Ponni Nadhi, and Chola Chola, and they are already on music charts. The film, which is about a succession dispute in the Chola dynasty, will be released on September 30 in five languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
