Director Omar Lulu is withdrawing his film "Nalla Samayam" from theaters. The decision came after an excise case was filed against the film's trailer. Omar Lulu informed me that the rest of the matters will be done according to the court order. Omar Lulu had informed about receiving the notice from police the other day.
The Excise case was taken on the grounds that the trailer for "Nalla Samayam" encourages the consumption of drugs. The case is in the Kozhikode Excise Office. Excise officials say that they had received many complaints against the trailer. The case has been taken under Section 55 of the Kerala Excise Act.
At the same time, Omar Lulu had earlier responded that there have been many movies in Malayalam promoting the use of intoxicating drugs. He added that what is happening now against his movie is a targeted attack. Omar asked why Bhishmaparvam and Lucifer were showing MDMA and why no case was filed against them.
Nalla Samayam was released on December 30. The excise case was filed the very next day. Nalla Samayam is a film that visualises the events of a single night. Written by Omar Lulu and Chitra S, the film is edited by Rathin Radhakrishnan. Swapnesh K Nair, Chief Associate Director, Song Cut Hemand Kumar, Casting Director Vysakh PV, and Ajmal Latif, Sec Camera. The production is by newcomer Kalantur under the banner of KGC Cinemas. Along with Irshad Ali, new heroines came into the lead roles in Nalla Samayam.
