The long-delayed historical film "Sangamitra" was initially scheduled for 2018. Sangamitra is directed by director Sundar C. The director made the announcement officially then. Even the first look poster of the movie was published during the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival. After the release of "Baahubali,"
it became clear that moviegoers were interested in epic historical fantasy flicks. Arya and Jayam Ravi played the lead roles in the movie. Shruti Haasan was rumoured to play the female lead. Later on, however, actress Shruti Haasan decided to drop the project. According to recent rumours, the film's producers intend to resurrect it. Actress Disha Patani is rumoured to take on the role of the movie's female lead in its place. According to reports, makers of "Ponnyin Selvan" have agreed to create the movie. It will be through the Subaskaran production company. It is anticipated that production would begin next year.
The official announcement is anticipated to be made soon. AR Rahman wrote the soundtrack for the Sundar C–directed film. Actress Disha Patani is presently filming with director Siva for her Tamil debut, "Suriya 42". It is rumoured that she would join the cast once her commitment to the current project is over.
