Today turned out to be a sad day for the family of popular cinematographer Ratnavelu. His mother Gnaneshwari Raman had breathed her last this morning in Chennai. According to the sources, it was a natural death occurred due to the old-age problems. We hear that the final rites will get held tomorrow. Many celebrities and fans have sent their condolences to the grieved family. We heard that his mother was always been a support strength for Ratnavelu.
He was a science graduate. He then did a three-year diploma course in Film Technology in cinematography from the M.G.R Government Film and Television Institute. The ace cinematographer assisted Rajeev Menon when he first came into the industry. He turned as a DOP with the 1997 Tamil film Aravindhan. He has handled the camera work for more than 25 films in this 23-year-old career. Some of his best works include Nandha (Tamil), Jayam (Tamil), Thirumalai (Tamil), Arya, Jagadam, Gaalipata (Kannada), Vaaranam Ayiram (Tamil), Enthiran (Tamil), David (Tamil), 1: Nenokkadine, Kumari 21f, Brahmostavam, Khaidi No: 150, Rangasthalam, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Sarileru Neekevvaru. He is currently cranking the camera for Indian 2. Directed by Shankar, this film features Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
Ratnavelu won Filmfare Award for Best Cinematography for the films Nandha, Enthiran, and Rangasthalam. He is also a member of Indian Society of Cinematographers. We lend our condolences to the grieved family.
