Anushka's 2018 horror-thriller Bhaagamathie is now being remade into Hindi as Durgavati. Bhumi Pednekar is reprising the role of Anushka in this remake. Now, another prominent actor Arshad Warsi has joined the team to essay a key role.
Arshad has joined the sets today and started shooting for his part. Though the makers haven't revealed which character he is playing in the film, going with his attire, it seems like the Munna Bhai actor is reprising the role of Jayaram from the original. Jayaram played a crucial role in Bhaagamathie and the Hindi makers have felt that Arshad will be the perfect fit for that character.
Dev D fame Mahie Gill is playing the role of a police officer in this movie. Most of the film's shoot is happening in Madhya Pradesh as the team has decided it to be the backdrop of the story. This is Bhumi's first female-oriented film and she said in a recent interview that for the first time, she is feeling like entire film is on her shoulders.
G. Ashok Kumar, who directed the original, is also helming this movie. Akshay Kumar is bankrolling it along with Bhushan Kumar of T-Series and Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainments. Durgavati will hit the screens in the latter half of this year.
