Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has said that her jury status at the Cannes Film Festival is a recognition of her 15 years of an acting career. Deepika says she is happy to be able to contribute in her way to elevate India globally. The response was in an interview with the Times of India.
“After being an actor for 15 years, for your work to finally be recognized on a global platform such as this, and to be able to represent the country there is a sense of gratitude and being extremely overwhelmed;” said Deepika.
Deepika added that she is happy she could contribute to elevating India globally. “I am also happy to have been able to make a small contribution in my way to elevate India globally. I do not consider this to be my success. Rather, it is the success of all in our country;” Said Deepika.
Deepika added that she has mentally prepared for the present trip. “In the past, whenever I went to the Cannes Film Festival, my expectations were different. Trips at that time also had a fun element. But right now, my mentality as a jury member is very different. I have prepared accordingly;” added Deepika.
The 75th Cannes Film Festival kicks off today (May 17). The fair will be held from May 17 to 28. Deepika Padukone is the only Indian actress to make the jury this time. Apart from Deepika, actresses Rebecca Hall and Numi Rapus were also selected as members of the jury. Other jurors include Asghar Farhadi, Jasmine Trinka, Jeff Nichols, Lodge Lee, and Joachim Trier.
Aishwarya Rai, Sharmisha Tagore, Nandita Das, and Vidya Balan are the other Indian actresses who have been jury member at the Cannes Film Festival before Deepika.
