Chinmayi Sripada, the multi-talented musician is constantly trying her best to bring awareness about the sexual assault on social media. Chinmayi actively took part in the MeToo movement and has raised voice multiple times, whenever necessary. Although she lost work and faced severe criticism, she did not step back and continued her work successfully. She has now come up with a series of tweets where she tried to talk about bringing awareness of sexual assault. Since it is April and it is sexual assault awareness month, Chinmayi took up the responsibility to share her thoughts on the same.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Learn how to be a better support system for survivors. It is NEVER the survivor’s fault. Their clothes, their attitude, their talent, their T-Shirt, their absence or presence of a Dupatta, their wearing leggings is not an invitation. Historically women have gained NOTHING financially by sexual assault. Instead we have to deal with hostile lawyers in courts who are bent on constantly torturing us. To Indians - don’t be the * who tries to come up with a caste/religion angle. Only makes you a rape apologist." Chinmayi wrote on her social media.
In a series of tweets, Chinmayi also mentioned, "Sexual Assault usually happens by someone known to the survivor. It is not a random stranger all the time. If your family member, especially a has identified a molester, keep them away from the family. It sadly needs to be spelt out. Most Sexual offenders build trust in their target before they assault them. That’s how the modus operandi is. So that they can gaslight the survivors later. Don’t blame the survivor for being friends with the molester. Because I get this a lot - To Daughters that get molested by their fathers while asleep - Your father did not mistake you for his wife. This is a general lie financially dependent or in denial moms say to their daughters. No molester is known to have agreed to his crime."
From time to time, Chinmayi takes a lot of pain in bringing awareness about sexual assault. Irrespective of the criticism she takes, Chinmayi continues to speak what she feels is right. It speaks volumes of her courage and she indeed is an inspiration to many in the current generation. Meanwhile, Deepika is engaging with her fans every day by posting her activities during the lockdown period. She has been posting pictures of the recipes she is cooking and workouts she is doing.
On the career front, Deepika Padukone was last seen in the film Chhappak. This Meghna Gulzar directorial was a flop at the box office. Her next release is '83 in which she played an extended cameo. Ranveer Singh played the lead role in this film which is being directed by Kabir Khan. Meanwhile, Deepika has also signed a Hindi remake of English film The Intern. Rishi Kapoor will play the other lead role in this movie.
I speak about sexual assault awareness. I use the word survivor. I speak about all genders. If you’re making it about men alone, that’s your problem. In fact, I speak about men NOT having a safe space to share or report about sexual assault a lot. Don’t see you speaking about it pic.twitter.com/ZvSbso0R7B
