Monday Box Office 'Cirkus': Rohit Shetty's Comedy Starring Ranveer Singh Sinks After A Disappointing Opening Weekend

Cirkus, whose statistics have been utterly disappointing, was the weak link in this weekend's box office mix over the Christmas holiday. A miserable weekend of Rs. 20.25 cr nett was recorded by Cirkus. It is Ranveer Singh's second-lowest opening in recent times, only after Jayeshbhai Jordaar, which was a tiny production and had lower opening-day receipts than previous Rohit Shetty movies like Sooryavanshi and Simmba. Cirkus crashed on Monday, weakening the film's fate. No one in the trade would have predicted that Cirkus would generate an estimated Rs. 2.25 to 2.75 cr. nett on its fourth day. The statistics felt even worse because Avatar: The Way Of Water, which has capitalized on the post-Christmas box office with numbers similar to its second Friday, was unable to do so. Since Cirkus was not approved, it would likely complete the first week with less than Rs. 30 cr. nett and have challenges moving forward.

The disappointing box office performance of Cirkus may be like a wound that may take some time to heal for Rohit Shetty given his stellar box office track record. After the poor performance of his last two movies, Ranveer Singh placed high hopes in this one, but it appears Cirkus may end up being the weakest of the three.

Singham Again, a movie that is a part of Rohit Shetty's cop world, comes next. The movie is anticipated to come out sometime in 2024 and stars Ajay Devgn and Deepika Padukone. Before that, his Amazon Prime original series Indian Police Force will air. Currently, Ranveer Singh's only available film is Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The movie he works on next is yet to be determined.
