Few months back our Desi hero Govinda had revealed that not only was he offered a role in "Avatar" but he was the one who suggested the title. When this news came out, netizens were quick to meme the issue and make fun of Govinda.
We think the memes now have a new face. Recently Hollywood actor Matt Damon revealed in an interview that James Cameron had offered him "Avatar" with a 10% share of the film's profit. However the actor had turned it down.
The actor said, “Jim Cameron offered me Avatar. And when he offered it to me, he goes, ‘Now, listen. I don’t need anybody. I don’t need a name for this, a named actor. If you don’t take this, I’m going to find an unknown actor and give it to him, because the movie doesn’t really need you. But if you take the part, I’ll give you ten per cent of…’ So, on the subject of money…” The actor didn't speak much about the money, but said he was offered 10% cut of the film's profit.
When he told his friend John Krasinski about the incident he had the perfect reaction to it. Damon recounts, “I told John Krasinski this story when we were writing Promised Land. We’re writing this movie about fracking. We’re writing in the kitchen and we’re on a break and I tell him the story and he goes, ‘What?’ And he stands up and he starts pacing in the kitchen. He goes, ‘OK. OK. OK. OK. OK.’ He goes, ‘If you had done that movie, nothing in your life would be different. Nothing in your life would be different at all. Except that, right now, we would be having this conversation in space.’"
Matt said that he could not take the opportunity due to scheduling conflicts with The Bourne Ultimatum. But he does not regret the chance of losing on the big payday as much as he regrets the chance of working with Cameron.
