On the basis of Kalki's epic novel, director Mani Ratnam toiled for years to produce his magnum opus "Ponniyin Selvan." The picture was only made possible by the director's tireless work. The movie is split into two parts. It has leading actors from various industries playing the lead characters.
A few days ago, the first "Ponniyin Selvan" movie was released in theatres. The audience is loving the period drama. As the movie has been in theatres for 11 days, it has reportedly made 400 crores of rupees. It's interesting to note that "Ponniyin Selvan 1" also becomes the third Tamil movie to hit the milestone. The historical movie is also enjoying a remarkable run at the box office. It has earned Rs 406 crores by the end of day 11. Ponniyin Selvan 1 joined Rajinikanth's "2.O" and Kamal Haasan's "Vikram" as the third Tamil movie to gross over Rs 400 crores. Ponniyin Selvan 1 is on track to surpass Kamal Haasan's "Vikram" record to become the highest-grossing movie in Tamil Nadu. It is already the fastest movie to reach Rs 150 crores in the state. The multi-starrer has already broken box office records in the USA, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia. The producers have formally acknowledged this. Ponniyin Selvan 1 is anticipated to make 500 crores shortly. As per reports, it will collect over 600 crores.
The 1955 Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, which narrates the historical period of the Cholas with a focus on the Rajaraja Cholan, is the inspiration for Mani Ratnam's dream project. The film adaptation of the five chapters of the book was split into two parts. It stars Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, and R. Parthiban, among others. AR Rahman composed the music for the picture.
